HI MONA – “ I WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR FAMILIES”
Testimonial from a participant - It touched my heart!
Hi Mona,“I want to make a difference for families by sharing my story of the experience I had when I attended your 10-week session from March 23 – May 21, 2021.”
“After reading your repost about your experience in 1995—when your daughter was diagnosed with bipolar disorder—I wanted to send you a note. I’d love to make a difference, so please let me know if I can be of any assistance."
”I have applied many of the ideas I learned in the session. Even my family commented from time to time that they recognized differences in my approach to issues. I was always a “fixer” in our family dynamics. I now realize how important it is to be a listener and a facilitator—not the one fixing. It has not been easy, and it requires a change in attitude to understand, be patient, and allow my family to evolve. Joan Taylor
HOW CAN JOAN AND OTHERS HELP SOMEONE?
· Listen to what individuals are saying and wait until they are finished telling you what is happening.
· When they stop sharing, ask: “Did I understand you to say you are frustrated and at a loss about what to do when conflict is happening in the family?” If yes, then ask: “Would you be open to hearing what I learned about approaching frustrating situations differently?”
· Wait for their answers or no. If yes, you can share that you reached out for help and how the experience made a difference.
· Asking for help is one of the most difficult things to do. When a person tells you how frustrated they are, this is an indication they are feeling comfortable sharing what is happening to them and they are not alone.
· Share your experience—what you learned—and ask whether they would like information to learn more about the program you attended. Hearing your experience can help them feel more comfortable and more likely to reach out for support. It is their choice whether they reach out for help to change what is not working.
· You made a difference by listening, reflecting on what you heard, and helping them feel heard and validated—because your story felt relevant to them.
What Cool Family Solutions does: Coach Families through difficult situations using our strength-based 10-week program.
Philosophy: LIVED IT, LEARNED IT, LEANED INTO IT, LOVED IT
"IT" stands for "Transference of positive change in family dynamics"
BY: lived experience, learned what worked, leaned in practicing what worked and love what WE do coaching families through difficult times.”
Cool Family Solutions has an upcoming 10-week session funded by The Thumbs Up Foundation, and we have limited spaces available.
If you’re curious about what the 10 weeks look like—or wondering where to start—we’d love to connect. When you join, you’re not doing this alone: alongside the 10-week session, we also offer Self-Directed Peer Support so families can stay connected, encouraged, and supported as they put what they’ve learned into practice. Many families tell us that peer support is where they feel most understood—because its real people walking a similar road.
