"Family Members Need Support to Provide the Support"
Updated: Oct 1
"Family Members Need Support to Provide the Support" Thit was said by our daughter Candace when our family in 1995 were faced with something that we had no idea what we were dealing with and what the future held for her.
" When I get so sick that I don't have my foot in reality anymore, where I can't respond normally and I act on my delusions, that's when I get hospitalized."
Our family were lost and were left to learn through trial and error what to do to have our family stick together and work as a team.
She had a supportive work-environment which helped her to know her options and felt able to give herself time to recover should she needed it during a crisis.
PLUS, Family knowing what skills to use and when to use them, how to step in and what works best. The family does it automatically, and that is huge for all, loved one and the family.
"Freedom comes when you build up support systems where you need them - decision to get help is what made the difference" Candace Watson
Along with her faith, she is an outdoor enthusiast, mother of 3, has an MBA, role model and supports her family when they need her help.
When I was frustrated and complaining about not knowing how to support her, a friend bluntly told me - "Quit complaining and do something about it!' Bluntly said - OKAY I WILL!!
We turned adversity into the opportunity to help more families - 10-week Session that has proven 91% success of using skills effectively for positive outcomes since 2018.
We understand families dealing with mental illness and addiction are exhausted, overwhelmed, and defensive. When a family can reach out to someone who has lived the experience of being judged and misunderstood, has them emotionally relieved and feeling there is hope because they feel heard and understood.
COOL FAMILY SOLUTIONS does not provide therapy, and do not allow unguided advice-sharing. Instead, we provide a highly structured, manualized Action-Learning Lab that helps families practice emotional regulation and de-esclation skills. Weekly homework is stated for them to practice and share weekly their experiences using the tool learned.
This is a safe, confidential rehearsal space where the participant brings their toughest real-world home situations, try out communication tools live with a peer who has been there, and figure out what actually works for the family situation.
The program is a:
Fixed 10-week intensive: 2 hours weekly. High accountability with clear entry/exit points.
Capped Participants (10-12 max) Multi-family composition maximizes diverse co-learning and participants realizing they are truly not alone.
Inclusive - open to spouses, siblings, adult children, couples dealing with mental illness, addiction, or both
Dual-metric Tracking: Pre/Mid comparison of the 24-Point Family Dynamics Checklist + Flourishing Life metrics
Tri-Phasic Longitudinal Tracking: Tested at Baseline (Pre), Graduation (Post), and 6 Months after completion.
