In 2020, I approached DO MORE AG to be a facilitator due to my farm experience and my own family's experience with mental health in the family.
I was hired and called to be one of their facilitators of their Talk Ask Listen Sessions.
Do More Ag are doing more BY providing their Talk Ask Listen sessions
WHY? my story provides an insight to what can happen in the life of a farmer.
My brother Norman was killed in an accident which led to my nephew MARK and his wife CINDY having to take the reins to manage the dairy farm. This sudden change was an emotional roller coaster to manage the grieving process of losing a Dad, Father in Law, Grandpa, adapting to keep the dairy farm on track and raising 3 children.
Growing up on the dairy farm, there were the good times along with the challenging times such as the time when one of their daughters announced her engagement and there was no hired hand to milk and feed the cows. Mark and Cindy were not sure if they could go their own daughter's wedding.
The stress of not knowing how to handle both important pieces of their life can be overwhelming. However, Farmers Help Farmers when faced with challenges. The farmers in the community came to their rescue making sure they attended their daughter's wedding.
"The Do More Agriculture Foundation is launching the 2026 Community Fund for Mental Health, sponsored by Farm Credit Canada. The Fund supports communities across Canada to host free, local mental health workshop called Talk Ask Listen, which is tailored to agriculture and rural communities.
It empowers communities to build connection, increase confidence in talking about mental health, and take meaningful action—together.
Application deadline extended to May 20.
