Personal life and Worklife Flourishing
When our personal life is affected with critical situations such as I mentioned in my last blog, nearly losing my husband Ted, your personal life and work life can be affected. In the workplace, we do not know what people are trying to manage in their personal life unless they feel comfortable in sharing with someone who will listen, understand and validate (LUV - a tool we teach) them.
For example using myself as the example of what can shift in one's life when faced with a critical situation were: my health, self-kindness/compassion, and cognitive flexibility/adaptable. Doing the Flourishing Life Questionnaire again in Oct 4, 2024 told me these were the areas to work on. Without Dr Hammond's flourishing life questionnaire, I would not have been aware of what I needed to do for my well-being while caring for my husand. First step was to have self-compassion, being gentle, kind and understanding with myself while caring for my husband.
What I will tell you, the key to looking after myself was having a strong family support system. Our 4 children, daughter-in-law, 2 son-in-laws, and a boyfriend of our daughter and 7 grandchildren who jumped in to help wherever they could!!!! PLus our family were blessed having a strong outside force of friends and neighbours and work associates supporting all of us!!!! Without A Strong Support System, I have personally witnessed where a person can be so overwhelmed with trying to manage their personal and worklife during these critical times their self compassion for themselves and physical health were deteriorating.
When individuals complete the Flourishing Life Questionnaire prior to our 10-week Families Helping Families Session and a 2nd one in the 9th week tells us the impact of the 5 tools the participant practice each week. 8 Session for the workplace includes Flourishing Life Questionnaire twice.
The graph below will show you the impact using our three pillars:
